Born on April 16, 2008, the Rochester Concerned Taxpayers Association (RCTA) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization which serves in the interest of the taxpayers of Rochester. Our primary goal is to provide information and education on matters associated with or affecting City, school and county taxes and spending habits. In a very short time, the RCTA, through educating, advocating, and being the voice of the people, has experienced a great deal of success:

* Creating a strong voice for the people of Rochester
* Succeeded in getting the tax and spending cap amendment in the City Charter
* Persuaded the City Council to move away from Skyhaven Airport ownership
* Mobilized Rochester taxpayers to stand against the proposed $3.99 tax rate hike for the 2009 City budget
* Convinced the City Council to delay using funds for a new City Hall
* Delayed approval of constructing an unnecessary $20 Million Middle School
* Delayed the pursuit of the City purchasing 55 acres of commercial land and building a railroad crossing
* Delayed the use of limited funds to be used to create a business “incubator” space in downtown Rochester
* Established a website to help educate and communicate details of many labor contracts and other important spending items

Because the fight to control wasteful spending never ends, we must remain vigilant in our efforts. As the RCTA moves forward, we will continue to provide vital information to educate the public about issues that will affect our quality of life. Issues such as public labor union contract negotiations, comprehensive rezoning, use of public monies for private enterprise and City & school department infrastructure projects will be researched with details provided to the Rochester public.

Expanding our support network across more businesses and individuals will serve to broaden our success as concerned taxpayers of our community.
